As one of the flavoring ingredients in "Jerk" spice blends and marinades, allspice is the dried berry of an evergreen tree native to Central and South America has a flavor and aroma reminiscent of cinnamon cloves and nutmeg. Allspice is sometimes called Pimento berries. It has a variety of uses including pickling cakes and other sweet goods chutneys and rice dishes.

Hard to find whole berries

Excellent. These were exactly what I needed, and very hard to find in stores, and I received them in a timely manner.

It's difficult to find whole allspice in stores except for small packages that are far more expensive per pound. Plus, the allspice berries from Spices Etc. tend to be much fresher, which makes for more flavor.
