This is the sweet, dark ground Chile pepper that is the base for chili powder. If you want to create your own chili blend, start with this for best results. Ground Ancho Chile Pepper is also a nice garnish for sauces and egg dishes.

To make your own ancho chili powder, use 1/2 cup ground Ancho chile, 1 TBSP each garlic powder, onion powder, cumin and oregano. Add salt, cayenne pepper and ground thyme to taste.
